Pop Up Project (PUP) Team

MEMBER OVERVIEW

What is the Pop Up Project Team?

The Pop Up Project Team is the group of people representing the church who agree to work together to develop an idea that will address the soul cry of young adults in your community.  The Pop Up Project may or may not “serve” young adults directly, but should benefit them by including them as collaborators on the project.

Example:  A pop-up park (for 3 October Saturdays) that hangs hammocks and creates picturesque seating spaces in an under-utilized grassy patch near a shopping area. 3 artist stools/easels and paint boxes are set up for anyone to paint.

  • Target communities: Saturday shoppers and walkers.
  • Young adult domain:  Neighboring/placemaking or art/maker spaces (young adults collaborate in creating the space, as well as enjoying it).
  • Theological message:  God created the world for humans to enjoy, not exploit
  • Theological practice: Sabbath

Who will be on the PUP Team?

The team will include the designated young adult and pastoral leader for the church as well as 4-5 congregational members. The pastoral leader may be lay, ordained, volunteer, paid, part-time, or full-time–but someone in a recognized leadership with some decision-making authority and one young adult church between the ages of 23-29.

Team members should bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the table. We are looking for people who have the following characteristics:

  • Open-minded, willing to consider old problems in new ways
  • Passionate about the institution and its potential
  • Future-oriented
  • Energetic
  • Committed to the 8–10-week process of developing a Pop Up Project

Why join?

The PUP Team has an opportunity to learn about young adults in your community, and to explore new ways to walk alongside them in the 8-week design sprint that unleashes the creative potential of collaboration with young adults, and with other congregations.

This team will engage in a participatory and energetic process to consider the needs of young adults in our community, and to develop something new and different for this constituency. Together, we’ll get to reimagine what is possible and create a moment that points to God in collaboration with young adults in our community.

What does participation mean?

Here’s what it means to be on the team, which will meet over the course of 8-10 weeks:

  • Attend a series of 8 meetings totaling 15-20 hours of meeting time.
  • Carry out any action steps between the meetings. Total: 5 hours outside of meeting time.
  • Play an active role in launching the pop up project. Total:  5 hours outside of the pop up project/day/event itself.
  • Be an active participant in this process, bringing your energy, perspectives, and ideas to the table and talking about the Pop Up Project with your congregation.
